Opened the drawer where a couple of spare magazines are kept, and found a strange thing: The magazine spring sticking out of the mag. loose rounds and the base plate separated.
It quickly begame obvious that maybe because of old age (?) one of the lips on the plastic base had split.
Searched around for replacements and found Top Gun had them at a reasonable price. Ordered one, and it arrived pretty quickly.
Put back the metal plate on the spring, compressed the spring and slid on the new base - good as new!
