Can I install a 9mm barrel in my .40S&W or .357SIG SIG SAUER handgun?

You cannot use a factory SIG SAUER 9mm barrel in a pistol originally designed for .40S&W or .357SIG. However, you can buy an aftermarket barrel, such as Bar-Sto that is specifically designed to convert the caliber from .40/357 to 9mm.

Can I use my P239 .40S&W magazines for .357SIG ammunition?

Unlike the double stack .40S&W and .357SIG variants of SIG SAUER pistols such as the P226 and P229 which do use the same magazine for both calibers, the P239 uses a specific magazine for each caliber. It is reported that the P239 .40S&W magazines will feed .357SIG, but not the other way around. However, we recommend only using caliber specific magazines for duty or protection.

How can I make my P228/229 9mm hold 17 rounds? X-Grip?

The X-Grip adapter will work with the P228 and P229 9mm, using Mec-Gar 17RD P226 9mm magazines or factory P226 9mm 15RD magazines and the X-Grip. It simply slides over the top of the magazine and clips on to the base plate.

The Mec-Gar 17RD magazines have been discontinued by Mec-Gar. The new 18RD AFC magazines do not work well with the X-Grip. You would have to replace the thicker polymer base with a metal plate, but you will end up with a gap between the frame and the X-Grip due to the new 18RD magazine tube being slightly longer.

With the new style factory or Mec-Gar magazines, you will need to modify the base plate to accept the X-Grip. The front of the plate needs about .080" removed with a bench grinder or dremel. The X-Grip was designed for the original German made base plates. If you have one of the older German magazines, no modification is required.

Are your SIG SAUER magazines factory or aftermarket?

All of the magazines on our web-site are described in the title. We do not play the game of deception. The product titles clearly state who the manufacturer is. Our SIG magazines are factory unless otherwise stated in the title.

I want to convert my SIG pistol to/from DA/SA, DAK, DAO. What parts do I need?

How can I tell if my SIG SAUER magazines are German or Italian made?

The left magazine in both upper photographs are current production Italian factory magazines. The right magazine in both photographs are the older style German factory magazines. Notice the formed detent (red arrow) on the German magazine. The German magazines also feature the spot welded, zig-zag pattern rear seam.

The current production OEM, Italian made magazines will usually have a small stamp somewhere on the magazine body, "MEC-GAR MADE IN ITALY". These are manufactured by Mec-Gar for SIG. They are factory magazines and usually will have the SIG SAUER logo on the side. The older German magazines manufactured by J.P. Sauer & Sohn will feature the logo in the photograph on the lower right. There is still a handful of current production magazines made by Sauer of Germany.

How can I tell if an item is in stock? I don't like backorders.

We don't like backorders either. That is why we do not backorder items. Our shopping cart has live inventory control and will not allow you to order something that is out of stock. It there is an "add to cart" button, it is in stock.

Which sight numbers do I need for my SIG pistol?

If your gun is shooting well with what is on it, you should replace them with the same sight height numbers. A good light and magnifying glass can help to find the numbers on your sights. The dovetail cuts are all the same on standard P series (not P230/232) and SIGPRO models. If all else fails, SIG SAUER publishes a standard.

.357SIG or 9mm will use a #8 front and #8 rear - .40S&W and .45ACP will use a #6 front and #8 rear.

We consider this a rule of thumb because we have seen all kinds of different sight height combinations. It is best to find the numbers.

My SIG pistol is shooting high (or low). What sight numbers do I need to lower (or raise) the point of impact?

For rear sights, the higher the number, the taller the sight. For front sights, the higher the number, the shorter the sight. This can be confusing to remember.

The easiest way to think of it is, numbers up, groups up; numbers down, groups down. This is true for both front and rear sights.

Each number change on the rear sight will affect POI 2" per 25 yds. Each number change on the front sight will affect POI 1" per 25 yds.

How can I tell if my Sig Sauer can be converted to DAK?

In order to convert your P Series Sig Sauer pistol to DAK (Double Action Kellerman), your frame must be compatible in order to accept the DAK trigger bar. If you remove your right side grip panel, you can determine which frame you have. Early model frames are not DAK compatible and most later models are.

This is an example of a P229 frame that is NOT DAK compatible.

What year is my German made Sig Sauer?

Most German and West German guns will have a date code on them. On sig's, it is on the chin of the slide.

How can I tell which slide pin my Sig has?

Sig Sauer has used several different firing pin retaining pins over the years. Looking at the side of your unloaded pistol, you should be able to see the difference in comparison with our photo to determine which pin your pistol uses. Sig recommends using the same type pin your gun came with for replacement.
