Springfield Armory in 1777 the George Washington ordered the Springfield Armory to be built to store ammo for the Revolutionary War. In 1968 the Government shut down the Armory due to budget cuts.

In 1974, a family names Reese relaunched the name as their own brand. Starting with the famous designs that made the Springfield Armory M1 Garand, 1911-A1, M14.
